I feel like I should add a question mark after this post title: Highlights of 2020? Implying, that there weren’t really any. Of course, that isn’t entirely true. Every year, even 2020, had moments of beauty.
Photographically, however, it’s been a pretty slow year for me. Usually, I’m in Alaska leading photo workshops from March until October. That means lots of opportunities for photography. But this year, thanks to the pandemic, almost my entire season was rescheduled. And my time in Alaska was far too short and intermittent. Little travel, few photo workshops, and reduced motivation led to one of my least productive years. And yet, of those images I did create, there are a couple that stand out as some of the best I’ve ever made. This one is my favorite of the year:
I think this image shows 2020 for what it was. Dark, troubled, even violent, but with the hope of something better on the distant horizon. My other images from the year are more typical, differing mostly by location. Many of these images are from Colorado, rather than my home in Alaska. That’s certainly novel, for me.
So here they are, my highlights of 2020. I hope you enjoy them.
