Photography Workshops and Tours
Why would you choose to travel with me on a photo workshop or natural history tour when there are so many other options?
Personal Knowledge
Regional Expertise
Professional Experience
Individual Attention
That’s why.
My photo workshops are for small groups, usually very small, and I only lead a few a year. That means both before and during the tour, I’ll have the time to talk, to help you arrange your travel, and answer questions. In the field, we can discuss photo technique, critique images, and work through the creative process of photography, without the competition from 20 (or 50) other photographers.
We will also go the best places. I live and work in Alaska, and have traveled to almost every corner of this great big state. Alaska is not just another destination for me, it’s my home. I know it and love it, and can share with you the best locations, at the best times of year. When it comes to Alaska photo tours, I know what I’m doing.
For workshops that take us further afield to Africa, the lower 48, South or Central America, I’ll only take you places I’ve photographed and visited in the past. Yet I’m humble enough to know that I’m no replacement for a local guide, and so I work with locals. In Botswana, for example, I collaborate with locally owned safari operators who know their home country the way I know Alaska. Together we come up with the perfect trips, at the best prices.
I also know what I’m doing. I’m a professional photographer and photo educator. It’s what I do, not a game I play on the side. I’ve worked on assignment for national magazines and conservation groups and published hundreds of articles in dozens of print and online magazines about the art of photography. I’m a skilled teacher, a top-notch naturalist, and above all I’m passionate about the art of photography and its power for good.
That’s why you should join me. Check out my trips in the menu above or consider creating your own custom tour.
